Every time ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini writes an answer, you wait. MindMargin is a free Chrome extension that fills that wait with a flashcard, an SAT or GRE word, or a quick game, and gets out of the way when the answer is ready.
Why study during the AI wait?
Answers from ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini take anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of minutes, and most people spend that time watching text appear. Try the wait-time calculator with your own numbers to see how it adds up over a year.
Those seconds are a good fit for quick review. Flashcard apps like Anki are built on short, frequent practice where you answer from memory, and a single flashcard takes only a few seconds. MindMargin puts that practice where the waiting already happens, so you don't have to find extra time for it.
What you can study while ChatGPT loads
- Your own flashcards. Paste a Quizlet set, a spreadsheet or a CSV. Each card is scheduled with FSRS, the memory model Anki uses, so the ones you're about to forget come back first.
- SAT and GRE vocabulary. 300 SAT words and 500 GRE words, with ten new ones a day.
- Words from your own chat. When the AI uses a word worth knowing, MindMargin can quiz you on it, with the AI's own sentence as the example.
- Quick games. Speed Match, Word Rain, Scramble, Real or Fake and a daily five-letter puzzle, each sized for about fifteen seconds.

How it works
MindMargin watches whether the AI on the page is writing. When it starts, a small card slides in at the side of the page. Answer before the AI finishes and you earn double XP. When the answer is ready, you're back in your chat, and if you never touched the card it folds into a small "Answer ready" pill. You can move, resize or close the card, and pick a different activity from its Switch menu.
Is it private?
Yes. Your chats never leave your computer. MindMargin reads the AI's answer on your screen to find words worth learning, and that happens locally. Today there are no accounts and the extension sends nothing anywhere. Read the privacy policy.
Why we built it
Several recent studies suggest that when AI does more of the work, people practice less of the thinking. We summarize them, with their limits, in what the research actually says, and explain our reasons in what we believe.
